CTO / Head of Engineering (m/w/d)

Sphaira is a cutting-edge mobility and healthcare technology company focused on transforming the way hospitals transport patients and conduct medical isolation. We are developing an innovative autonomous vehicle solution that will improve patient experience, increase efficiency, and reduce costs. We are looking for an experienced and visionary CTO / Head of Engineering to lead our technical team in the development and implementation of our autonomous intra-hospital patient transport platform. CTO / Head of Engineering (m/f/d) Tasks Develop and execute the overall technology strategy for the development of an autonomous intra-hospital patient transport vehicle. Build, lead and manage the engineering team, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement. Work closely with stakeholders, including hospital administration, clinicians, and patients, to ensure that the developed solution meets their needs and expectations. Oversee the design, development, testing, and validation of the autonomous vehicle system, ensuring it adheres to industry standards and regulations. Ensure strict quality management according to ISO13485. Identify, assess, and mitigate technical risks and challenges throughout the development process. Coordinate with external partners, such as hardware and software suppliers, to ensure seamless integration of components and systems. Drive the intellectual property strategy to protect the company's innovations and maintain a competitive edge. Monitor and evaluate emerging technologies and industry trends to inform product development and strategic decisions. Develop and manage budgets and timelines to ensure the project is delivered on time and within budget. Requirements Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Robotics, or a related field. A minimum of 8 years of experience in engineering, with at least 4 years in a leadership role, startup experience of advantage. Proven track record in developing and deploying autonomous vehicle systems or other robotics solutions, preferably in a healthcare setting. Deep understanding of autonomous vehicle technologies, such as sensors, actuators, computer vision, machine learning, control systems, and the autonomous software ecosystem. Experience working with relevant industry standards and regulations, such as ISO, IEC, and FDA guidelines. Experience in managing budgets, timelines, and excelling under limited resources in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. Excellent problem-solving and critical-thinking skills, with a focus on innovative solutions to complex challenges. Strong leadership skills, with the ability to motivate, mentor, and manage a diverse team of engineers and technical experts. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with stakeholders at all levels - in English and ideally German.
